SEE-ERA.NETs White Paper on research cooperation with the Western Balkan countries successfully presented in front of the European Commission in Brussels on February 28, 2008

Representatives from various Directorates General (DG) discussed recommendations given in the White paper with SEE-ERA.NET delegation

One of the most important outcomes of SEE-ERA.NET consists in the preparation of a “White Paper on over-laps, gaps and opportunities in view of the extension of bilateral research programmes and initiatives towards multilateral approaches”. This White Paper has been presented to more than twenty representatives from the horizontal as well as the thematic directorates of the DG Research and also their colleagues from DG Enlarge-ment, DG Education and Culture, DG Information Society and Media who followed the invitation of Alessandro Damiani, Head of Unit, Directorate D on International Cooperation. The representatives made use of the unique opportunity to listen to the proposed strategies and actions for further integration of the Western Balkan countries in the European Research Area. They were intensively discussing those recommendations given in the White Paper which are specifically addressing the European Commission with Dr. Erika Rost (Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, BMBF), Dr. Jörn Sonnenburg and Ralf Hanatschek (International Bureau of the BMBF, PT-DLR), and Peter B. Mayr and Elke Dall (Centre for Social Innovation ZSI, Austria).

In summary it was recommended that further actions are necessary on three fronts:
